There is an old song that says “you can’t go to church ’cause the church is YOU.” This website is a collection of thoughts along those lines.
Christianity has, in too many cases, become “churchianity,” where believers mistakenly think that “going” to church is what it’s all about. Instead, I want to encourage you (and myself) to actually BE the church–meaning that we live a life of ministry, every moment of our day.
If we are true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, then our entire life truly should become a life of “full-time ministry.” That doesn’t mean we necessarily do it vacationally. It means we serve the people around us full-time with the love of our God regardless of our vocation, profession, or occupation.
Sure, we can pool our resources and hire vocational ministers for things here and there if desired. But vocational, professional, degreed, or denominational ministry are not the apex of ministry.
The real heart of Christian ministry lies in serving our families, our neighbors, or communities, our churches, our elderly, our orphans, our widows–at every opportunity, and with the love of God.
